Sweet and Powerful
"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God." - Matthew 4:4
Have you ever thought about the Bible as food for your soul? Just as your body needs nourishment to survive, your soul needs spiritual sustenance to thrive. In Revelation 10, John is told to eat the little scroll, a symbolic act that teaches a vital truth. The Word of God isn’t just something to be heard or read, it’s something to be taken in, digested, and allowed to transform your life.
When John ate the scroll, he described it as sweet as honey in his mouth. God’s Word is sweet because it reveals His love, His promises, and His plans. It’s a reminder of His goodness, His faithfulness, and the hope He gives us through Jesus. But as sweet as it is, the Word also comes with weight. It challenges, convicts, and sometimes brings hard truths about judgment or the consequences of sin.
Before you can share God’s Word with others, you need to let it work in you first. It’s not just about quoting Scripture or passing along Bible verses. It’s about letting the Word penetrate your heart, change your perspective, and shape your actions. You can’t profess what you haven’t first received.
Think about your daily life. Are you ingesting God’s Word regularly, or are you trying to navigate life on empty? God’s primary way of speaking to you is through Scripture. It’s where He reveals His heart, His will, and His guidance for your life. Just as you wouldn’t skip meals for days on end, you shouldn’t neglect time in His Word.
Make it a priority to “eat the scroll.” Spend time in Scripture, letting it nourish your soul and renew your mind. Approach it with a heart ready to receive and allow the Holy Spirit to make it come alive in you. And don’t stop there, share it. As you let the Word transform you, you’ll be equipped to speak it into the lives of others, offering the sweetness of hope and truth to a world that desperately needs it.
